Miyu is, obviously, a vampire. She hunts down Shinma (demon like spirits) and returns them to the dark from which they escaped.
A shinma named Larva went to Japan to kill Miyu before her vampire blood had stirred and revealed. But he waited to long and when he decided to kill Miyu, his touch awakened her power. Miyu took some of his blood and gave him some of hers in return and by this he is bound to her. He is Miyu's only friend and helps her return other Shinma to the darkness.
